Richard Hickman Menefee : papers, 1835-1839.

Letters of a romantic nature written by Menefee to his wife, Sarah Bell Jouett Menefee, daughter of Matthew Harris Jouett while on a trip to Washington and New York in 1835 and from Washington during his service as a representative in Congress, 1837-1839. The letters also mention dinners with Daniel Webster and Martin Van Buren; duel of his brother, John Menefee, at Vicksburg, Miss., 29 Dec. 1838; probability of war with Great Britain over the Northeastern boundary question; and giving messages to his son, Jouett.
